Summary
For centuries, the vast majority of people from Africa who left the continent had no choice in the matter. The horrible process of slavery that started in the 1500s also created an African-American and Afro-Caribbean community that has since built its own unique and vibrant identity. African immigrants to other parts of the world had their own stories, too. Whether African immigrants began their journeys as slaves, as refugees, or by choice, find out how connecting food, family, and dining together has bridged the generations, and how those communities have had a lasting impact on their new homes. No matter where they come from, people living together have a long history of sharing meals, eating foods and dishes that have been passed down for centuries. Each title in CONNECTING CULTURES THROUGH FAMILY AND FOOD includes color photos throughout, and back matter including an index and further reading lists for books and internet resources. Key Icons appear throughout the books in this series in an effort to encourage library readers to build knowledge, gain awareness, explore possibilities, and expand their viewpoints through our content rich nonfiction books.
